Unemployment ticking time bomb - Besigye

MPIGI.

The former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president, Dr Kizza Besigye, has warned that the high rate of unemployment among youth could cause an uprising against government.

“The unemployed youth street demonstrations in Kampala will one day create violence if the government does not find a solution by investing in the young people,” Dr Besigye said.

Dr Besigye who is seeking to become FDC flag bearer, made the remarks while speaking to his supporters at Kayabwe Town in Mpigi District on Wednesday.

He said time to fight youth unemployment is now and asked youths to support him in the 2016 presidential elections to take the leadership of the country.

He tasked government to put youths on top of the national agenda and make sure they are engaged in using the available resources to become productive.
“Finding a solution to youth issues is not just an option but a fundamental priority,” he added.

Dr Besigye said the Opposition political parties, civil society organisations and religious leaders drew a citizens’ compact containing fundamental electoral reforms to ensure free and fair elections but has been ignored by government.
He said Uganda needs an independent electoral body that is not a servant of a candidate. “We have to protect the citizens voice,” he said.
