KAMPALA.
After David Emong won a silver medal at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, he deservedly expected a big token of appreciation from celebrants especially the President of Uganda.
Sadly, almost six months after that historic achievement, Uganda’s first Paralympics medal, Emong has not met the President and there are signs of hope.
Conversely, President Museveni is known to recognise athletes who accomplish big feats on the international stage. 2012 Olympic gold medalist, Stephen Kiprotich, Commonwealth double medalist Moses Kipsiro, World Athletics champion Dorcus Inzikuru, among others, can attest to this.

“I want to meet the President (Museveni) to present to him my medal and tell him the rich potential of Paralympic sport,’’ said an evidently frustrated Emong.
“I expected him to appreciate me in a special way like he did to my brothers but six months on I’m still waiting...but I’m still hopeful because we Paralympians can do a lot but we lack a lot.’’
The 2015 All-Africa bronze medalist had just won the Paralympic section of the NSSF Hash Run, yesterday. Emong finished the 8km race in 24:12minutes.
Another paralympian Benson Cheboriot came second and the 5000km runner hopes for classification ahead of the London World Championships in July.
Meanwhile, Kizito Nsubuga and Joseph Tebandeke finished the wheelchair race.
Inzikuru won the 21km Seven Hills race in the women’s category.
