Kampala.

While this might only be regular season, few people would have predicted KIU Titans and Startimes Falcons each failing to win their opening three games this season.

And while six-time champions Falcons have an opportunity to improve that record this evening against Our Saviour, the former have until Sunday as the earliest opportunity to start correcting the sequence.

The ensuing hours will certainly feel like months for the Hamza Nyambogo coached side after they lost 98-86 to Power at YMCA Court on Wednesday evening.

Unlike Falcons who lost a number of players, the Kansanga-based university side strengthened their roster for the second season running.

Sudi Ulanga, Kutai Gatwech, Etienne Kazungu and Mathew Ochieng all featured in addition to an already established cast that includes Norman Blick, Geoffrey Soro, Diego Angemi, Francis Sokoroza.

The result though was all too similar, a third straight defeat for a 0-3 start to the season.

“The players did not show up and we did execute any of our plays,” muttered Nyambogo afterwards.

“The near 100 point thumping will probably be the wake up point,” he added.
Blick scored a team high 15 points and Geoffrey Soro had 14 but were always second best against a Power team which improved to a joint league best 3-0 record thus far.

Joseph Ikong scored a game high 25 points while Paul Odong added 20 for Power who comfortably won all four quarters.

With none of the usual pre-season favourites not looking anything to close to title contenders Power’s form notwithstanding, the season is already shaping up as another City Oilers procession. “To be honest, we are using the league as a build-up for the Zone 5 in Zanzibar in late August,” an Oilers official who requested for anonymity remarked.
