Ugandan lightweight and World Kickboxing Federation champion Patricia Apolot will be crowned African champion come August 14 at MTN Arena-Lugogo going by her coach’s prediction.

Daily Monitor caught up with Black Pearl, as Apolot is popularly known in fighting circles, at the University of Pain Gym, Luzira-Kampala on Saturday afternoon as she trained for her imminent fight against Egyptian national champ Fathia Mustapha.

Her coach Istvan Rozman spoke of her with confidence and gave the Egyptian no chance. “She will knockout the Egyptian; she has immense punching power, almost like that of boys, and she is also good at kicking…she will win outright.”

The Hungarian, who is in and out of Uganda for Apolot’s preps, commends the fighter’s boxing and Tae Kwondo coaches. “She had very good coaches in boxing and Tae Kwondo and I will not change her style,” Rozman explained. “We only have to reduce on the few mistakes to make her better.”

Apolot, 24, joined boxing in 2009 at East Coast Boxing Club in Naguru under the tutelage of Coach Hassan Khalil, but after a few bouts Moses Golola lured her into kickboxing.
