KAMPALA. The fruits of the works of the Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) are pretty much evident lately.
The men in the paid ranks are hardly devoid of competition lately. On Sunday, Vincent Byamukama sealed his second victory of the year after winning pros category at the two-day Kinyara Golf Open.
The Entebbe Club player beat resilient Fred Wanzala on the seventh hole of the sudden-death play-off to clinch the biggest chunk of the Shs10m kitty.

“It was tough but I made it,” Byamukama told this paper on return from Masindi. At the par-71 course, had an eagle on par-5 Hole No.9 but three bogeys on Hole No.3, No.8 and No.17 saw him return on one-over on Day One. The 2013 Uganda Professionals Open champion was on level with Jinja’s Wanzala, both placed joint-second behind Day One leader Opio Onito by a stroke.

While Onito faded to card seven-over on Day Two, Byamukama mixed two birdies with five bogeys to return 74. They had again tied with Wanzala for the day, forcing a play-off.
Byamukama and Wanzala got pars on par-5 Hole No.18. They returned to the tee-box, got par each, then birdie each and tied again with birdie all.
The pair moved to par-4 Hole No.1 and each got a par. It was the same case on Hole No.2 and they were separated when Byamukama got a birdie on par-5 Hole No.3 while Wanzala picked a par. “After this win, I now want to prepare for the Rwanda Open due next month.” Byamukama added. The amateur event, attended by over 100 players, was won by Joseph Mawejje.
