Defining season for Byona as he eyes maiden NRC title

Ambrose Byoona

KAMPALA.

During the Mosac Rally in November last year in Jinja, Ambrose ‘Omunyeto’ Byona was the only driver to beat Jas Mangat and Joseph Kamya in a Mitsubishi Evo X ‘Kisodde’ in a competitive section.

Byona, partnered by Derrick Lubambula in a Hima cement sponsored Mitsubishi Evo IX achieved that in CS7 Kagoma Gate by 2 seconds.
Byona consequently promised a full assault this year after expressing satisfaction with the season (2016) in which he managed to finish among the top ten in all events.

As the season rolls of with Lato Milk Mbarara Rally 2017 this weekend, Byona (pictured, right) remains positive of a full attack on the NRC title.

“I am ready for the fight starting this weekend with victory in Mbarara. After the accident in Kamwenge, the car is back to normal,” Byona who started competitive rallying during the 2015 Pearl Rally said.

“I am physically ok and ready for the fight.”
Not to leave any stone unturned, the ‘Omunyeto’ driver has hired a Kenyan, Ernest Wambui an expert in Mitsubishi Evos, this season. “Wambui will work with my local mechanics this season.”

Apart from Mangat, Byona singles out Ronald Ssebuguzi, Duncan Mubiru, Arthur Blick Jr and Alwi Hassan as the drivers to watch out this season.
