Motocross: A lot to be decided in season-ending round

KAMPALA. A guest rider in African champion Jayden Boyd will bring as much excitement to the final round of the 2017 Mountain Dew National Motocross Championship in Garuga, Entebbe on Sunday.
This is the second time Boyd will race in Uganda but the Garuga track will be alien.
In 2012, Boyd raced in the MX2 category at the Busiika Motorsport Arena. Now an MX1 rider, he has grown so much to rise to the pinnacle of the of the sport in Africa, winning the event in Botswana where Ugandan champion Maxime Van Pee suffered an injury.
“I would have loved to race against him and see where I stand but I cannot because of my injury,” Maxime told a media briefing this week.
Maxime has already wrapped up the MX1 title again as he hold an advantage in excess of 60 points over second-placed Assaf Nattan.
Similarly, Fatuh Kiggundu, on 265 points, 79 more than Yassin Kasirye in second, has sealed the MX2 crown.
Perhaps the biggest highlights will be reserved for MX85 and MX65 where the top three are separated by razor thin margins. “This is a testing moment for me. I have three rivals. I will surely be proud if I manage to win the title,” MX85 leader Ben Nsumba said. The primary six Hormisdalen PS pupil has 225 points from five rounds with Wazir Omar second on 203 while Fortune Ssentamu (183) is third.
While Nsumba spoke with a tinge of pressure, MX65 leader Malcolm Lubega isn’t.
On 232 points, Lubega will be pursued by brothers; Akena Obote (226) and Milton Akaki (198). “I am not feeling any pressure whatsoever. I am current champion and all my rivals should be scared,” Lubega said.
