KAMPALA.

Ugandans will pray star player Peace Proscovia maintains her current form if the national netball team, the She Cranes, are to make any impact at the Netball World Cup due August in Australia.

The She Cranes captain scooped a second straight Player of the Match award as her 100 percent shooting earned her side Loughborough Lightning their second consecutive win in the English Netball Super League on Monday.

Proscovia, who joined Lightning from Ugandan side National Insurance Corporation (NIC) less than two months ago, converted 41 out of 41 goal attempts as her team won 57-48 on the night.

The display was Lightning’s second successive victory following a 58-44 result against Celtic Dragons last week. Proscovia was also the best player against Dragons.

Lightning lost all their 14 league matches last season and won once during the 2013 campaign but the acquisition of Uganda’s most lethal goal shooter is steadily changing their fortunes. “I have to thank Loughborough for giving me this opportunity to expose my talent which was hidden away in Uganda,” Proscovia told the Lightning website before praising her new coach.

“Karen (Atkinson) is a very good coach. What I’m doing and what the rest of the players are doing is all down to the impetus of Karen,” she added.

Loughborough will next face Tamsin Greenway’s Surrey Storm at home at the weekend as they look to secure a hat-trick of wins. Proscovia has managed 147 goals in four games.

Procovia’s input will be vital when the She Cranes take on Fiji, Zambia and Wales in the World Cup group stages.
