UOC, French embassy donate to schools

Kampala.

Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) in partnership with the French Embassy donated sports equipment worth Shs12m to four KCCA schools yesterday at a function held at Police Children’s Primary School, Kibuli.
These were proceeds from the 2017 Uganda-France friendship week where the two entities agreed to use the money to develop sports in KCCA public schools.
The four schools selected included; Lubiri Secondary School, Kisaasi Primary School and Police Children’s Primary Schools in Kibuli and Naguru.
On top of the sports equipment, the schools will benefit from a six-month coaching program where experts in different disciplines will be placed at the schools to train both the games’ teachers and students as William Blick the UOC president noted.
AIGP Fred Yiga who represented Police said, “Apart from the benefiting the schools, the Uganda- France friendship week also resulted in to the first ever Annual Police games.” He also hinted at the idea of organising a tournament between police, miltary and prison’s schools.
While presiding over the ceremony, H.E Stephanie Rivoal the French Ambassador said, “we believe in the potential of the children and we want to support them to rise up.” She urged the Police and KCCA to use sport to build community relations.
The event will act as a build-up to this year’s Uganda-France friendship week which was launched on Wednesday at the French embassy. The highlight this week will be a rugby match between the Uganda Rugby 7s and the French military team.
