KAMPALA.

SC Villa went top of the Azam Uganda Premier League on goal difference following a 2-1 away victory over Simba in Bombo yesterday.

The result, coupled with Vipers’ 1-1 draw at SC Victoria University moved both sides to 60 points. Villa, however, have a game in hand on the hitherto leaders. Vipers are left with three fixtures.

Dennis Kamanzi and Victor Emenayo scored for Villa while at Namboole, Julius Malingumu headed in Vipers’ equaliser towards the end of the first half after lanky SCVU striker Fahad Toko had given Morley Byekwaso’s side an early lead.

The Vipers goal came after they bossed possession for long spells. Farouk Miya had come close to scoring with Malingumu heading wide as a result of Vipers’ dominance.

Both sides had chances to win the game in the second half with Vipers’ custodian Ismail Watenga saving twice from Muwada Mawejje and substitute Dan Nsubuga while Patrick Sembuya shot over from close range.

Vipers also seemed aggrieved by referee David Odoi’s decision to end the game 35 seconds after the fourth official had signaled for three added minutes.
