Mubs to face Kyambogo in UFL quarters

KAMPALA.

Holders Makerere University Business School (Mubs) are to play Kyambogo in the quarter-finals of the Nile Special University Football League. The game, due August, will be a repeat of last year’s final.

The curtains came down on the group stages at the weekend with the underrated Uganda Martyrs University (UMU), Nkozi gatecrashing the last eight party.

Nkozi shocked Kyambogo with a 2-0 defeat in their last group game to secure the quarterfinal slot.

The Nkozi-Kyambogo result locked Kampala University (KU) out of the knockout phase. The highly-rated KU easily defeated Mbarara University of Science & Technology (Must) but the victory wasn’t enough for them to qualify.
The pick of the quarterfinals will, however, be Mubs-Kyambogo.

Last year, Aaron Adula scored a sensational first-half goal to secure the title for Mubs in a game characterised by fan violence at Namboole Stadium. “We want to show that we have learned something,” Kyambogo coach Deo Sserwadda said. “We got the toughest rival.”

Kampala International University (KIU) will play Makerere while Nkumba host Ndejje in Entebbe. KIU beat Gulu 3-1 and Ndejje beat Busitema 4-2 to both advance to the knockout stage.
“We have tried to improve at the back. We are more solid than last season,” said Makerere coach, Deo Bamweyana.

On paper, Uganda Christian University (UCU), have the easiest assignment as they face Nkozi.
