Vipers awaiting stadium clearance by Caf inspectors

Kampala.

Uganda’s Caf Confederation Cup representatives Vipers remain optimistic about hosting their continental encounters at their St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende home.

Last month, the Uganda Cup champions failed to get the green light to have their preliminary round tie against Comoros’ Volcan Club de Moroni played in Kitende.
That forced them to have it at Namboole, drawing goalless, before Deus Bukenya’s goal earned them a 1-all result on the island to advance to the first round on away goals’ rule.

Now, with South Africa’s Platinum Stars set to visit on March 11, Vipers have requested the continental body, Caf, to pass their new facility.

“When the Caf inspectors came here, they found our roof incomplete but that has been sorted,” the club president Lawrence Mulindwa noted recently.

Consequently, the club expects Caf to send another “official in a few days” according to a club source, to re-inspect the stadium.

“In fact, besides the roof, Caf were impressed with the other facilities such as medical, dressing and referees’ rooms,” Mulindwa added.

Construction of the roof was reportedly delayed by the delivery of some materials. While Vipers failed to get the nod then, KCCA were allowed by to host their Caf Champions’ League tie in Lugogo.
