Soothing sounds filled the Rwenzori Ballroom, Sheraton Hotel, as Yo Africa, a 30-member youth orchestra, performed with a powerful display of skill and talent last Saturday.
The concert, the second for the youth orchestra, was a stage presentation of a large instrumental ensemble juxtaposed with sections of string, brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments.
The children, who play different musical instruments from the violins, trumpets and flutes, showcased what they have been learning from school.
They played in unison pelting sweet melodies much to the enjoyment of the audience, which included their parents and other lovers of classic music.
The junior orchestra, mainly children between five to 13 years, joined up with the senior ones to perform Siyambala, a South African folk song. The audience joined them as they clapped to Hungarian Dance. The 90-minute concert climaxed with a performance of Thunder and Lightening Polka by J Strauss.
Dr Maria Park Kim, director, Africa Institute of Music, later gave certificates to the participants of the day.
