Uganda scoop medals as India rule

- Para-Badminton. The hosts staged a spirited fight to win some medals during the Uganda Para-Badminton International Tournament, which was dominated by India in a contest that attracted 25 countries, at the MTN Arena in Lugogo Complex.
Kampala. Khadija Khamuka and Joy Florence Nabadda impressed as the hosts’ only singles medal winners at the Uganda Para-Badminton International tournament at MTN Arena, Lugogo from May 23 to 28.
The female duo won bronze in the women’s singles SL4 and SS6 classes at a tournament where India dominated nearly wholesomely with six singles gold medals and five from the doubles.
Khamuka was stopped from reaching the final by Norway’s eventual gold medallist Helle Sofie Sagoy (21-8, 21-8) while Zimbabwe’s silver medallist Moline Mavhunga stopped Nabadda.
In the doubles, Nabadda had better fortunes in the mixed doubles where she combined with Egypt’s Abdelrahman Abdelwahab Sayed to top the SS6 exhibition (17-21, 12-21).
In the women’s doubles SL3-SU5 class, Khamuka and Rose Nansereko settled for bronze after they were ousted by Turkey’s Zehra Baglar and India’s Manasi Girishchandra Joshi (11-21, 6-21).
Overall this event that was awarded ‘Best Organised Event 2018’ at the Uganda Sports Press Association (Uspa) awards gala, attracted about 145 participants from 25 countries.
