3 suspected Ugandans held in Mozambique over terrorism

Kampala- Mozambique security forces have arrested three people believed to be Ugandans after a raid on a suspected terrorist camp in Cabo Delgado district of Mocimboa da Praia north of the country, which is infested with Islamic terrorists.
According to Club of Mozambique, a local media, the police said the suspects, including a woman, were found with Ugandan travel documents.
One of the suspect was identified as Abdul Rahman Faisal. The same name appeared among the top leaders of Usafi Mosque near Mengo Hill Road in Kampala, Uganda, which was raided by security forces in April last year.
In the mosque raid, two suspected leaders of the group were shot dead and more than 80 children and women rescued, but Faisal was not arrested and Ugandan security are looking for him.
Security forces accused the leaders of the mosque of being Islamic fundamentalists and nine were charged in court with kidnap and murder of Susan Magara who was killed in February 2018.
Daily Monitor could not readily establish whether Abdul Rahman Faisal arrested in the Mozambique raid is the leader of Usafi Mosque who is wanted by the Ugandan security forces.
Ugandan security’s response
Uganda’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations, International Police and Foreign Affairs Ministry didn’t have details about the arrest of the three suspected Ugandans in Mozambique.
The CID spokesperson, Mr Vincent Ssekatte, said Interpol experts in Kampala were still trying to cross-check with their counterparts in the International Police for details.
The Club of Mozambique quoted Mocimboa da Praia provincial police spokesperson, Mr Zacarias Nacuti, saying the interrogation of the trio helped them identify terrorist camps in the area that have now been overrun and destroyed.
“Faisal told reporters he is an electro-technical engineer, and a leader of the al-Shabaab terrorist group in Uganda. He denied coming to Mozambique to take part in any terrorist attacks,” the media wrote.
Rahman told Mozambique police that he had entered the country looking for his colleague Abdul Aziz, whom he last saw in the DR Congo some time back.
