What you need to know:

  • Issue. Bishop Odongo advised women to behave well and dress responsibly in a Godly way. He also warned that they would not hesitate to punish those who would dress indecently.

Soroti. The new Anglican Church bishop of Soroti Diocese, the Rt Rev Kosea Odongo, has criticised women over seductive dress code and artificial beauty.

While addressing Christians at St Peter’s Cathedral on Sunday about the fruits of being good and the nature of the Holy Spirit, Bishop Odongo said women should learn to behave and dress responsibly in a Godly way.

“I want to request you to do well. You should feel bad when you do wrong. Stop embarrassing your leaders. In church, some of you look different but in the market, you dress indecently,” Bishop Odongo said.
He added: “If we get you, we shall discipline you and embarrass you in your own game.”

Biblical knowledge
Quoting the book of Isaiah:52:2 in the Bible, which questions why people spend money on other items other than food, Bishop Odongo challenged women against wearing wigs and putting on artificial fingernails that disguise them in the eyes of the Lord.
He threatened to stop wedding couples who go for church marriages while wearing bought hair (wigs).

Bishop Odongo urged Christians to spend their resources and energy on valuable items for the welfare of their families and things that give glory to God.

In support
The Sub-dean of St Peter’s Church of Uganda, Soroti Diocese, the Rt Rev Abraham Eruku, described the bishop’s preaching as gospel that exposes and condemns bad.
He said the Holy Spirit always gives good information to people who serve the Lord.

Ms Emilly Amulo, one of the Christians, said the bishop’s message might only be achievable on dress code but not on the wigs.
She said their beauty lies in hair and most women will not endeavour to cut off their hairs.
