Suspended Makerere University research fellow Dr Stella Nyanzi has been ordered to prepare her defence in a case in which she’s accused of harassing President Museveni after Buganda Road Court said Friday that she had a case to answer.
After listening to the evidence from the three state witness, grade one magistrate, Ms Gladys Kamasanyu on Friday ruled that Dr Nyanzi, who is currently on remand in Luzira prison, has a case to answer.

After the magistrate’s ruling, Dr Nyanzi told court that she will present five to seven witnesses to defend her.

“Although the case was not proved beyond reasonable doubt, the evidence on record shows there's a Prima facie case established against her. The defendant (Nyanzi) should put in her case. It is uncontestable that she owns the Facebook page that posted the post in question,” Ms Kamasanyu said.
Dr Nyanzi is charged with cyber harassment and offensive communication which contravene sections of the Penal Code Act.
On November 9, 2018 Dr Nyanzi declined to apply for bail. However, Mr Isaac Ssemakadde, at the time told court that his client wanted the state to speed up the investigations, to enable her go through the trial.

Prosecution contends that on September 16, 2018, Dr Nyanzi posted on her Facebook page suggestions deemed obscene against Mr Museveni and his deceased mother.

It is stated that she also repeatedly posted messages to disturb or attempted to disturb the peace, quiet or right to privacy of the President. This is the second time police are accusing Dr Nyanzi on allegations of abusing President Museveni and his family.
