Kampala. Uganda Blood Transfusion Services has applauded the Indian Association of Uganda for providing beds to blood donors and helping the national blood bank to ensure there is always blood in the country.
Speaking at the International Blood Donors day celebrations on Friday, Mr William Mugisha, the principal blood donor, recruiter urged religious institutions and corporate companies to emulate the Indian Association of Uganda, who raised 6,300 litres of blood, by organising blood donation camps so that there is enough blood.

“We have peak and off peak seasons. We definitely need blood all through the year. When children are on holidays, we normally have low blood supply. That is when we go to companies but the Indian Association of Uganda has been so supportive that they even gave us beds,” he said at the Constitution Square where the national celebrations were held.

Commemoration
Mr Ravi Shankar, the Indian High Commissioner to Uganda, said they facilitated a blood donation camp in seven different locations in Kampala as part of the activities to commemorate the Mahatma Ghandi’s 150th birthday.
“One of the ideals that Mahatma Ghandi championed throughout his life was service for all people. There cannot be any better service that you can give mankind than donating blood. This year we are commemorating his 150th birthday anniversary and I thank the Indian Association for coordinating this,” he said.
