Kenyan truck driver killed in Uganda, body dumped in Wakiso

Unidentified assailants killed a Kenyan truck driver and dumped the body in Buwambo near Kasangati in Wakiso district.
The deceased identified by police authorities as Natalia Peter, 51, was driving a bugged white Mitsubishi truck Reg. No. KBAX 800F.
The thugs took the truck after killing him.
Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Patrick Onyango confirmed Mr Natalia’s death.
“Police in Kasangati, received information from residents of Buwambo on July 29 that there was a body of an unidentified male adult that was lying in the area and police went and picked it and took it to the City mortuary,” Mr Onyango said.
Prior to Mr Natalia’s disappearance, his employer Mr Raphael Lamuyu from Nakuru in Kenya was monitoring his movements in Uganda using a tracking device. The truck was last been seen around Katwe area, a Kampala suburb but its proper location was lost after the battery was allegedly removed.
After losing the vehicle’s location, Mr Lamuyu traveled to Kampala on Wednesday and registered a complaint at Katwe police station. Mr Lamuyu registered a case of a missing driver and truck. After registering the complaint, Police advised him to check the City mortuary where he found the deceased.
Mr Onyango explained that Mr Natalia had been hired from Nairobi, Kenya to ferry tile manufacturing materials to Jinja.
“When the driver reached Jinja where he was supposed to offload, the owners of the materials told him to proceed to Kampala where they would offload. He was travelling with the owners to Kampala. The owner of the truck last monitored him in Katwe area that's why they reported to Katwe police station,”Onyango said.
Mr Onyango said that Police in Katwe was investigating a case of murder and theft of the truck. When the police recovered the body, the face had been burnt. It’s not clear why the killers scalded Mr Natalia’s face before killing him.
Mr Onyango said one suspect has since been arrested in connection with the killing and is being held at Katwe police station. Mr Onyango however, failed to explain the suspect’s role in the killing and whether he was part of the group that had hired Mr Natalia. It’s also not clear why the owners of the materials for making tiles have not been arrested for interrogation.
However, other police sources revealed that after offloading the goods in Katwe area, Mr Natalia was allegedly hired by unknown people to transport certain goods back to Kenya. However, this newspaper could not independently verify this claim.
The relatives of Mr Natalia on Thursday picked the body from the City mortuary and transported it back to Kenya for burial as investigations continue.
