Kole pupil murder case file sent to DPP

Kole. The case in which two Indian nationals are accused of killing a pupil in Kole District has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further input.
Lira Resident State Attorney Gloria Akello confirmed the development on Thursday.
“I have received the case file and it is already at the headquarters [in Kampala) with the Director of Public Prosecutions. I will make a follow-up and get advice from them,” she said.
Dickens Okello, a Primary Three pupil at Alito Primary School in Alito Sub-county, was found dead near the school premises at around 4pm on November 9.
It is reported that the deceased while on his way back home with his friends, were lured with biscuits by two Indian nationals who were driving a white Toyota Ipsum car.
An eye witness alleged the suspects now under custody at Kole Central Police Station further lured the children with Shs2,000.
But when they refused and started running away, the suspects chased after them, pounced on Okello before strangling him.
According to the witness, the suspects sped off but were immediately arrested by the residents and later handed over to police.
Mr Peter Nkulega, North Kyoga regional police commander, said police are investigating the matter and murder charges have been preferred against the suspects.
“To the best of my knowledge, the case has been handled from the word go in the most professional way. We have not infringed on the rights of those suspects,” he said
The Lira Resident District Commissioner, Mr Milton Odongo, said the police were doing everything possible to ensure the deceased’s relatives access justice.
“No stone will be left unturned. Those who killed the innocent child will pay for their crime,” Mr Odongo said.

Condemned
Mr Alex Oremo Alot, the Lira District LC5 chairman, who also doubles as the chairperson of all the nine district chairpersons in Lango Sub-region, warned foreigners against committing crime with impunity.
“We are not particularly happy with some of their actions. What Lango needs is respect for the citizens,” Mr Oremo said.
