MP Zaake remanded to Gulu central prison on treason charges

Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament, Mr Francis Zaake has been remanded to Gulu Central Prison on treason charges.
Gulu Chief Magistrate Isaac Kintu on Friday remanded Mr Zaake until March 14 when he will be returned to court for further mention of the case.
Mr Zaake was re-arrested on Friday at Arua Chief Magistrates Court moments after he had been released on bail on charges of escaping from lawful custody.

Mr Zaake who is facing charges of escaping from lawful custody had secured a Shs50 million non-cash bail


After the re-arrest, the MP was driven to Gulu Chief Magistrates Court where he was not allowed to take plea because treason is a capital offence.
His lawyer Henry Komakech Kilama says they will apply for bail on Monday.
Mr Zaake joins 35 others, including Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, who were accused for stoning president Museveni’s car on August 13, 2018 during the Arua by-election.
