Man arrested for sodomising South Sudan refugee
Police have arrested a man who allegedly sodomized a 16-year-old boy.
The suspect is a milk dealer in Mpumudde-Kimaka Division, Jinja District.
The youngster said he came to Uganda in October as a refugee from South Sudan.
The victim told police that on reaching Moyo District, he was informed that his mother had re-married in Jinja town.
While in Jinja, the boy said, he was approached by the suspect, who promised to offer him a job as he searched for his mother.
According to the victim, the suspect introduced him to local leaders and police to legalise his stay in the area.
However, according to the boy, on the night of December 24, the suspect picked a knife and ordered him to undress and sodomised him.
The next day, the victim complained to Market Zone B Village chairperson, Mr John Obara, about the actions of his supporter.
Police searched the suspect’s home and reportedly recovered a box of condoms and a knife.
Mr Vincent Irama, the Jinja Central Police Commander, says that after investigations the case file will be forwarded to the Resident State Attorney next week.
In Uganda, sodomy is illegal and punishable with imprisonment for life. Acts of sodomy contravene Section 145 (a) of the Penal Code Act which states that “any person who has carnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment for life”
