NRM’s Kibaaju declared winner of Sheema north MP race

Ms Naome Kibaaju, the candidate for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has been declared the Sheema North MP-elect after defeating the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate, Mr Guma Nuwagaba in a two-horse race.
Ms Kibaaju garnered 11,326 votes while Mr Guma polled 7,322.

She replaces Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Elioda Tumwesigye, who resigned to contest for Sheema Municipality MP seat which he won.

Mr Tayebwa was intercepted at Kabutsye in Masheruka town council, Sheema District and dragged from his car into one of the two police cars that the officers were driving

The election was held amid tight security with some FDC supporters accusing security operatives of protecting NRM members who were allegedly bribing voters.
Two FDC members were also arrested early in the day for allegedly engaging in electoral malpractices.

Ms Kibaaju defeated Mr Nuwagaba, a former Resident District Commissioner (RDC) in NRM primaries. He then crossed to FDC citing unfairness in the conduct of the ruling party intra election.
Ms Kibaaju, a former undersecretary in the ministry of defence, lost the bid to become Sheema Woman MP in 2011.
"I will work for every one; those who have supported me and those who did not," Ms Kibaaju told journalists after she was declared winner by the Sheema District Returning Officer, Ms Deborah Asiimwe at 9.09 pm Monday.
