The new Masaka Diocese Bishop, the Rt Rev Serverus Jjumba, who was consecrated at a colourful ceremony on Saturday, has reshuffled priests.
Those affected in the reshuffle include Fr Gervese Mukasa, who has been replaced by Fr Nswa Nkonge Kizito as judicial vicar.
The latter is a tutor at Bukalasa Minor Seminary in Kalungu District.
Fr Cosmas Kabogozza, the parish priest of Betelemu Parish in Kyotera District is appointed episcopal vicar for priests, while Fr Benedict Ssettuuma, a tutor at Ggaba National Major Seminary, is the priest in-charge of small Christian communities in the diocese.
Both posts (Episcopal vicar for priests and priest-in-charge of small Christian communities) are new.
Fr Francis Mukasa, the chairperson of priests in the diocese, is the new inspector of church-founded schools, replacing Mr Dennis Kalyango.
The new bishop also appointed Fr Dominic Ssengooba, a parish priest at Buyoga Parish, as Vicar General, a post that fell vacant when the former was appointed bishop in April this year.
Bishop Jjumba said new leaders of laity in the diocese will also be elected later this month.
The prelate announced the changes after his consecration at Kitovu Sports Arena in Masaka Municipality.
The episcopal ordination of the new bishop was conducted by outgoing Masaka diocesan Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa, assisted by Archbishop Luigi Bianco, the Papal Nuncio to Uganda, the Archbishop of Kampala, Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, Archbishop of Gulu John Baptist Odama, the auxiliary Bishop of Archdiocese of Mbarara Lambert Bainomugisha, and the chairperson of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, Bishop Anthony Zziwa.
Bishop Jjumba, 57, replaced John Baptist Kaggwa, who retired last year after clocking the retirement age of 75 years. He is the fifth bishop to serve the diocese, which has been in existence for 66 years.
Others are late Bishops Adrian Ddungu, Joseph Kiwanuka and Henri Streicher.

Ensuring service delivery
While celebrating his maiden mass at Kitovu Cathedral on Sunday, Bishop Jjumba said he will make more changes in his administration to ensure effective service delivery to his flock.
“Any good and focused leader would love to work with a winning team, I am happy that I have selected a good team, don’t be surprised if you see more changes in my administration,” he said.
Fr Ronald Mayanja, the director social communications at Masaka Diocese, said the new appointees will assume office next month.
“When the bishop appoints someone to any office, he is given one month to prepare himself and also receive the appointment letter,” Fr Mayanja said.
Masaka Diocese, which has more than one million Catholics, covers the districts of Masaka, Kalungu, Sembabule, Lwengo, Bukomansimbi, Rakai, Kyotera, Lyantonde and Kalangala.
