One dead, four injured in accident along Mbale-Tirinyi Road

One person was reported dead and four others sustained life-threatening injuries after an accident happened on Mbale-Tirinyi Highway.

The accident involving two fuso trucks happened at around 8.00pm on Thursday at Naboa, just 10km from Mbale Town.

“Some of the five occupants sustained multiple injuries, but were retrieved from badly damaged vehicles and rushed to Mbale Regional Hospital for medical treatment,” Mr Moses Haumba, one of the eyewitnesses, said.

He said the vehicle REG NO UBF-309W was heading to Kampala side while the other REG NO UAX-791Z was coming in the opposite direction before colliding at Naboa.

The Budaka District Police Commander, Mr Wilson Ssalaam, confirmed the accident, identifying the deceased as Akim Isabirwe (one of the drivers). The injured were identified as; Amina Kani, Yusuf Waiswa, Peter Simon Mutesa and a Chinese national identified as Young-yen.  

“Some occupants were trapped following the head-on-collision between the two vehicles. Locals were able to retrieve the victims and take them to the hospital for further management,” he said.
