Three hospitalised after drinking crude waragi on Christmas

There was drama at Buligo village in Iganga municipality when locals forced a 35-year-old intoxicated man to drink urine as first aid.
Ismail Dholaga, a boda boda cyclist in Iganga town is said to have fallen on the road Thursday morning shortly after leaving a bar where he reportedly spent the whole night of Christmas drinking.
Dholaga is a resident of Nawanzu village in the nearby Nakigo Sub County.
Mr George Tibita, one of his friends said that in preparation for Christmas Day, Dholaga, who is believed to be a Muslim by faith, saved about Shs50, 000 for drinking and having fun.

However, after drinking, he failed to walk back home and fell on the roadside.
In a bid to save his life, responders mobilized urine from women who had gathered around him.
“We managed to get half a liter of urine and forced him to drink as first aid,” Mr Sunday Marijan said.
A section of Muslim faithfuls who witnessed the drama condemned the act and asked Dholaga to drop his Islamic name.

“This act of people drinking alcohol yet they have Islamic names is bad. What Ismail did is punishable by God. I ask him to leave the Islamic religion and change to the one that suits his desires,” said Mr Ayub Maliki.
However, Dholaga was later helped by police who rushed him to Iganga hospital for treatment as investigations continue.

Two admitted after waragi drinking contest

Meanwhile, two people are admitted to Tororo Hospital in critical condition following a waragi drinking contest. They are Paul Mwereza, 35, a resident of Magoro "B" and Paul Onyango 33, a resident of Pakamalungi village both in Magola Sub County.

It is alleged that the duo collapsed after engaging in a waragi drinking competition organized by one John Okongo aka Wenga at Pochulu trading Centre on Boxing Day.
