Two security guards arrested over killing two people

KAMPALA. Police in Kampala have apprehended two security guards for shooting dead two people in two separate incidents.

Isaac Okwir a guard attached to Red Tech security company is accused of killing Abubaker Kinene,56, a mechanic and resident of Kyengera town council, in Wakiso District on January 7.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said Okwir was intercepted in Soroti District as he fled to his home district - Pallisa. Police said Okwir abandoned his gun at his company headquarters in Ntinda after the crime.

“He dumped the gun at the entrance of their head office in Ntinda and took off. A detective at around 2pm collected the gun and it was exhibited. The gun type is SAR UG PSO 813630908767 with three rounds of ammunitions,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.

The suspect killed Kinene as he passed nearby a Pepsi Cola depot he was guarding. It is alleged at around 9pm the guard had a quarrel with Kinene, pushed him into the trench and discharged at him.

Kyengera residents staged a protest over Kinene's killing and destroyed two cars parked at the depot. They brought fuel to set ablaze the depot but police and army contained the situation.

“He was trying to flee to his village in Pallisa District but he was intercepted by crime intelligence. He was transported back to Kampala and he will be arraigned in courts of law on charges of murder,” he said.

Another security guard identified as Mr Dickson Rwothungeo, 28, attached to Group Africa, a private security company has also been arrested for the murder of Geoffrey Ogwang on November 28, 2018.

Mr Rwothungeo allegedly shot dead Ogwang at midnight at a fuel station in Mbuya at around midnight after the deceased picked up an argument with one of the pump attendants.

“The security guard responded by shooting Ogwang who was quarrelling with a pump attendant. He later fled to Parombo village in Nebbi District where he was arrested from and brought back to Kampala on Wednesday,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.

Mbuya police station has preferred murder charges against Mr Rwothungeo on SD ref 30/23/11/2018. Mr Owoyesigyire said he too would soon be arraigned before court to answer for murder charges.
