The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in Jinja District in eastern Uganda are still searching for the body of their colleague who was gunned down by a junior officer on Tuesday afternoon and dumped in River Nile.
Private Jonan Katusiime attached to Jinja Bridge Marine reportedly shot his commander Sgt Peter Ouma before turning the gun at himself after he saw UPDF soldiers who had gone to arrest him.

UPDF said they are still investigating the cause of the shooting.
Eyewitnesses said there was a scuffle between Private Katusiime and Sgt Ouma before the shooting.

After the incident, Private Katusiime pushed the body into River Nile near the old Bridge.

The UPDF Public relations officer for Busoga region, Capt George Musinguzi, said they are still searching for Sgt Peter Ouma and the body of Private Jonan Katusiime was taken to Jinja mortuary for post mortem.

“We are still searching for the body of a soldier who was pushed in the river after he was killed by a colleague. However, the body of Jonan Katusiime is in the mortuary. We cannot tell the reason of the shooting now since the soldiers who were supposed to tell us are dead. However, we are still investigating and will tell you the cause later,” Capt Musinguzi said.
A source who asked not to be named in this story said Private Katusiime had applied for movement order (pass leave) but Sgt Ouma did not consider it.
