Kampala. The crowd at the Uganda Motorsport Arena in Busiika yesterday was quiet until the final heat of the MX125 category when Aviv Orland and Fortune Ssentamu exchanged leadership for 20 minutes.
Eventually Ssentamu, who was beaten to second place in the first two heats, emerged winner in the third, much to the delight of the crowd.
It was Ssentamu’s first time to ride in MX125 having dominated the 85CC for three years.
It was also the first time this season that Ssentamu had gone head-to-head with Orland after missing the opening race at Garuga last month because of injury. A delighted Ssentamu said: “It was good to get my season started, but I still have a lot of work to do to catch up with the best in the category.”
After enthralling the crowd, the teenagers joined the MX1, MX2 and MX veterans to show what they can do with the big boys.
But with the expected return of Ali Bobo Omar, Alestair and Paddy Blick from injury in the MX125, the duels in that class will be a must-watch.
Elsewhere, Alon and Stav Orland dominated the MX65 and MX85 classes. They won all three heats to strengthen their hold at the top.
While it is still too early, no one can doubt that the Orlands have thrown down the guantlet to their challengers .
Ashram Mbabazi Jr also won the three heats in MX 50 Peewee while the battle between Miguel Katende and William Blick in MX50 senior will go to the wire.
