10-man Nkumba pip 9-man Kabale in UFL first leg match

Kampala- Ten-man Nkumba University edged nine-man Kabale University 2-1 yesterday in Kabale in the first leg of their preliminary round knockout tie in the Pepsi University Football League.

Kabale were reduced to ten men in the 15th minute after Timothy Niwagaba was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle.
Derrick Kiberu Derrick broke the deadlock in the 25th minute after pouncing on a poor punch by Kabale goalie Andrew Kurunungi.

Fred Gwoto doubled the lead five minutes later with a shot from outside the box. Nkumba dominated proceedings but Kabale came back into the game when the referee pointed to the spot in the 90th minute after handball in the Nkumba box.

Dickson Atuhaire converted the penalty but was shown a red card after stepping on Nkumba goalkeeper Francis Lubega, who was also shown a red for retaliating. The match ended soon after.
