KAMPALA- Ashraf Bwabye admitted his love for Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Denis Onyango after being voted as the Best Goalkeeper at the just concluded Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) U17 tournament.

Bwabye, 15, has enjoyed a stellar season for the grassroots tournament twice emerging the best of the pack after helping Tororo’s True Vine to the regional finals which they lost to Trust High Busia in Soroti.

The Senior Four student of St Juliana SS Gayaza, was also outstanding in the Copa Coca-Cola games in Jinja, to cap off what he says is a landmark year in his career.

When asked what inspires the lanky teenager, Bwabye, who actually is son to Hassan Tamuleke of Wobulenzi in Luweero District said: “I love how Onyango helps the Cranes.

“He is my inspiration. Sometimes all the task is up to him to save the team and one day I want to be in his position,” Bwabye, who saved a penalty as Eastern Region won the shoot-out 3-2 against Kampala, said. The equivalent of the girls’ trophy was won by Patience Nambuya, also of Eastern Uganda.
