Adjumani acquires new stadium

Kampala. Adjumani District has finally acquired a modern sports facility following the renovation of Paridi Stadium by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR and the government of Japan.

The stadium which was established in 1997, has been in dilapidated state until December 2017 when the renovation started and completed in March this year.

The sports facility was handed over to the district authorities at a function which was presided over by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Gen. Moses Ali in the presence of the Ambassador of Japan to Uganda H.E. Kazuaki Kameda, deputy representative of UNHCR, Mahoua Parums, Head of UNHCR Adjumani, Orkhan Nasibov, refugees and community members. Gen. Moses Ali said he was grateful to the Japanese government for being one of the most consistent donors to Uganda’s refugee programmes.

“I am very optimistic that Paridi stadium will provide the opportunities needed for the talented youth here to develop their sporting skills and compete successfully,” he said.

The revamped facility is expected to provide shared space for sports, social and economic interactions for some 393,000 refugee and host community youth.
