Kefa: Business as usual as Express meet water

KAMPALA. Express seems to be behind its glory years. But rough times have polished a promising future.
This season, the biggest news in Uganda came from Wankulukuku where the Red Eagles announced online betting company, Betway in a Shs400m deal. This was just icing on the cake as their new chairman Kiwanuka forced sanity back to the 10-time Uganda Cup champions, who had gone from fighting for trophies, to making their Wankulukuku home a feared place for violence.
As they face Water FC, a Big League side, who are limping in the Big League, where they lie in relegation with 11 points from the first round, head coach Kefa Kisala cautions of complacency.
“We cannot underrate anyone at this stage. Water has been around for long and who knows they could be looking at the Uganda Cup to resuscitate their season?” Kisala said.
Express are in the round of 32 without breaking a sweat. Their first assignment was a botched game against Paidha Black Angels, where the West Nile team forfeited the game for lack of adequate security at their foster home in Arua at the Green Light Stadium.
But the Red Eagles have unceremoniously fallen to weak opposition in recent editions, with Kitara eliminating them twice in three seasons.
“The Uganda Cup can surprise you if you are not careful. It is the only championship where any team has a chance to win because it is knockout where one team must advance,” he noted.
But he outlined his team’s intentions to keep fighting in the league where they are blowing hot and cold and the Uganda Cup which he won with Express in 1995.
He is not under pressure though as the game will be played at Wankulukuku even though they are visitors to Water who rent the ground for their home games.
“I am confident we shall have more fans cheering us and that is an added advantage as we fight on both fronts,” he said.
Even with some absences; Arthur Kiggundu
Ruben Kabuye, Isaac Mutanga, goalkeeper Tony Kyamera, Kitara expects Express to “go as far as possible.”
