What you need to know:

  • Vipers boss Mulindwa, has often been accused of influencing technical matters at the club, a situation that is not expected to change soon.
  • Vipers play a URA side tomorrow that is one of two unbeaten sides this season and was the last team to inflict defeat on Vipers.

Kampala. Vipers president Lawrence Mulindwa has thrice had his fingers burnt while experimenting with inexperienced foreign coaches.
And after parting ways with Mexican Javier Martinez Espinoza last week, the Vipers hierarchy have once again returned to the tried and tested Edward Golola.

“I’m happy to be back where l belong and l think it is like the beginning of a new period. Do l have a different personality? No, but for sure l have a different approach and perspective.” Golola is quoted having said on the club website.
The coach who masterminded Vipers’ league triumphs in 2010, 2015 and played a prominent role as they won the league last season, took charge of the team’s training session yesterday ahead of tomorrow’s game against Onduparaka.

Why Golola?
Vipers boss Mulindwa, has often been accused of influencing technical matters at the club, a situation that is not expected to change soon.
Despite that interference from above, Golola has always managed to produce results and retains respect of the senior players, many of whom reportedly fell out with Espinoza.
Reports indicate Hamis Kiiza and Innocent Wafula will be the latest players to join the club having been tracked while Espinoza while still in charge.

Butindo influence
Golola’s relationship with the club’s technical head Eddie Butindo is also a key factor in his return. Golola holds Butindo in high regard having played under him at Miracle FC in the early 1990’s. The latter who these days prefers a more laid back approach often emphasizes teamwork and played a significant role in uniting Golola who was an assistant to former coach Miguel Da Costa after the pair reportedly fell-out last season. The club then embarked on an unbeaten run in the second half of the season that now stands at 29 matches after Saturday’s goalless draw away to Bright Stars.

Kenyan Michael Nam Ouma took charge of Saturday’s game that left the Venoms seven points behind leaders KCCA with two games in hand. He is expected to remain as assistant with Edward Ssali and Ram Nyakaana completing the technical team.
