MTN Uganda in partnership with Uganda Small Scale Industries Association today continued with its 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign donating various equipment to Bumu Disability Development Association based in Bombo Town Council, Luwero District worth Shs20 million.

The equipment includes computers connected with a one-year free internet, shoe-making machine, electric sewing machines, overalls, raw materials, threads and a draper worth Shs20 million to boost their business using latest technologies.

This year’s 21 Days of Y’ello campaign is running for 25 days instead of the usual 21 days in commemoration of MTN Uganda’s 25 years of transforming Uganda’s population.

Dorcas Muhwezi, Customer Experience Manager at MTN Uganda said the company’s support to Bumu Disability Development Association is aimed at empowering entrepreneurs to unlock the country’s economic growth and create jobs.

“We at MTN Uganda believe in doing good in communities in which we operate and that is the reason we’re here to extend our support to our entrepreneurs through the latest technologies, training, upskilling and mentorship to thrive in this digital era,” he said.

He said no one should be left behind in terms of access to the latest technologies irrespective of social-economic status as they seek to transform their lives and those of their communities.

Latest statistics from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development show that the private sector which consists mainly of micro, small and medium enterprises generates most of the jobs for our population.

But their rate of mortality is high, with about 90% of private enterprises operating for less than 20 years.

In her remarks, Simon Kakaire, Director at Bumu Disability Development Association applauded MTN Uganda for the support saying it will ease their operations.

“A heartfelt appreciation to MTN and its partners, for choosing Bumu Disability Development Association. Thank you for your immense love and support. With this generous donation, we will start making plates, spoons, and decorations using cow horns,” he said.

MTN established the 21 Days of Y’ello Care initiative in 2007 to allow its employees to directly contribute to the communities in which they live and work.

This year’s campaign is supporting 8 groups across various sectors including agriculture, digital financial services, hand crafts, housing, fashion and design.

So far, five groups have received MTN support including: Take a Step Women Organisation in Hoima City; King of Kings Multi-Investment and Consultancy Farms Ltd in Kitgum; Teso Textile Light Dynamics in Soroti City and Disability Employment Link Project Uganda based in Bwaise, Kampala.

MTN Uganda employees have over the years been involved in tens of initiatives in the communities through the 21 Days of Y’ello Care to boost their production capacity and transform their lives and those of their communities.
