What you need to know:

With help from Hwan Sung’s Medical Charity Services, the children will undergo free surgery at the Uganda Heart Institute.

It is said a healthy mind lives in a healthy body. But this is not true for three-year-old Carolyne Muhindo who was born with a hole in her heart.

Despite being of a sound mind and active in whatever she does, Muhindo develops a puffy face followed by easy fatigue with pansystolic heart murmur as she plays with her friends.
Dr Tom Mwambu, a heart surgeon consultant at the Uganda Heart Institute (UHI), says this situation shows a condition called Large Perimembranous VSD, partially closed off by tricuspid sepal valve, which shows that a child was born with a hole in the heart.

Muhindo’s future could be more pleasant, thanks to Hwan Sung’s Medical Charity Services that has offered Muhindo and nine other children free heart surgeries at the UHI expected to be carried out between April and May.

Hwan Sung director Jason Suh says more children will get assisted.
