Andrew Karamagi trial flops as Attorney General fails to show up

KAMPALA-
The trial in which a lawyer, Mr Andrew Karamagi is charged with grabbing Attorney General (AG) Peter Nyombi’s speech flopped on Tuesday afternoon.

This was after the AG failed to show up in court to be cross examined as he was busy “handling some state duties.”

The state attorney, Ms Barbra Masinde, who was sitting in for Mr Edward Muhumuza sought for an adjournment since she was not ready to start examining any witness as she was not conversant with the case.

Subsequently, Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate, Mr Simon Kintu adjourned the matter to October 17 this year for further hearing.
The suspect was previously charged with being a nuisance at the court which charges he denied.

Prosecution led by Mr Muhumuza alleges that on January 31 this year at the High Court in Kampala, Mr Karamagi, without lawful authority grabbed a written speech from Mr Nyombi, thereby causing annoyance to the government’s chief legal adviser.

The State further alleges that this act by Karamagi was an inconvenience to the public that was listening to the AG’s speech.
