Appeal. Cardinal Wamala urged Christians to recommit their faith to the doctrines of the church.

The widespread corruption, child abuse, abortions and human sacrifices have rendered Uganda a wounded State, Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala has said.

While speaking at a ceremony to mark 134 years of Catholic evangelism in Uganda at Brother Amans and Mapeera Memorial Church in Kigungu, Entebbe on Sunday, Cardinal Wamala said Ugandans needed to devise means to address the underlying challenges.

He also poised a question to the priests whether they were still following the doctrine of celibacy that they choose, and whether they were loyal to the leaders of the church.

Cardinal Wamala also urged married couples to continue following the vows they took in church, and advised youth to join missionary groups to spread the Catholic evangelism.

Kampala Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga said there was need to pray for the people who had wounded the country.

Father Jo Van Ven, commonly known as Miiro Sajja Lyabene, said it was absurd that humans, who were given the conscious to think, were doing the contrary to what they were created them for.

“No animal can carry out abortions. It is the sensible people God created with knowledge and wisdom behind such things. It is very absurd,” he said.
Two white Fathers Simeon Lourdel Mapel, also known as Mapeera and Brother Delmas Amans brought Catholic evangelism to Uganda on February 17, 1879.
