Charles Hamya to serve as special advisor to MultiChoice

The MultiChoice Uganda has said Charles Hamya, their general manager since inception in 1997, will continue serving as its special advisor despite tendering in his resignation on 1st January 2019.

According to a media statement released on Wednesday evening, the company board of directors, announced  "a mix of regret and gratitude" about Charles Hamya's departure after 22 years of dedicated service, following rumors about Charles' reported resignation on 1st January 2019.

"Charles Hamya decided to step down from his position effective 31st March 2019. Since 1997, Charles has played a critical role in the development and success of the organization," the statement reads in part, adding, "...and while we regret to see him step down, we wish him the best of good luck in his future endeavours. MultiChoice Uganda would like to thank him for his contribution to the growth of MultiChoice Uganda".

In 1997, MultiChoice Uganda and the South African headquartered Digital Satelite Television network Dstv, introduced the pay television business offering Ugandans a broader spectrum of video entertainment for Ugandans who could afford service both at home and public business premises.

Since inception, Charles Hamya as the general manager of MultiChoice Uganda, has been the face and backbone of the premium pay television service in the country.

In July last year, his wife Crusid Matovu accused him of involvement in extra marital affairs with a junior staffer Phoebe Nakazzi -- the Dstv Marketing manager forcing him to step aside for investigations. Details about the authenticity of the claims have since fizzled.

However, the media statement released at 18:30hrs, the MultiChoice Uganda board said Charles will continue to serve as special advisor to MultiChoice while the company opens the search for replacement for his position over the next three months.

"Our priority is to continue delivering a quality video entertainment service that enriches lives in Uganda," the statement concludes.
