The hits
“This album includes Mr Wamala’s first hits, like ‘Talanta’ redone by Irene Namubiru, which was originally recorded in 1959,” Ms Karugaba said.

“Our intention with this project is to share our father’s music with younger Ugandans who did not get a chance to hear him or see him perform,” she added.

Elly Wamala born Elishama Lukwata Wamala in 1935, died in 2004.

He had over 60 songs to his name, including Nabutono produced in 1959, Viola (1974), Welcome Pope Paul (1969), Akaana Ka Kawalya (1974) and Ebinyumu Ebyaffe (1998), among others.

He garnered a number of awards like the Uganda National Cultural Centre’s Most Virtuous Artiste in 1992, Uganda’s Musician of the Century award in 2001 and Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural Pearl of Africa Music award.
