Katikkiro Mayiga warns 'land grabbers'

Buganda’s Premier Charles Peter Mayiga has cautioned a section of people reportedly engaged in grabbing and encroaching on palace land in Mujaguzo in Kabowa, Rubaga division, a Kampala suburb.

The Katikkiro made the warning on Wednesday while touring Mujaguzo palace. He commended the Buganda land board for protecting the land amidst the malicious talk from those seeking to ‘grab’ it.

“I have many letters written to me by a section of people telling me how Buganda land board is selling the palace land,” he said, directing that no structure should be erected on it because it is cultural land.

“The Kabaka has power to fire anyone from traditional office within the kingdom and assign any one he wants and feels has the ability to serve him,” he added.

Mayiga also revealed that the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II is yet to visit the Mujaguzo palace.

Meanwhile Buganda Minister in charge of tourism Mr Kiwalabye Male also cautioned the palace caretakers to protect it diligently because it’s their responsibility to do so and have no right to sell the land.
