Kyagulanyi seeks Buganda endorsement

Presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, on Wednesday met with the prime minister of Buganda Kingdom, Mr Charles Peter Mayiga, seeking endorsement of the cultural institution.
Bobi Wine was accompanied by Mr David Lewis Rubongoya, the National Unity Platform (NUP) party secretary-general, Busiro East MP Medard Ssegona, Masaka Municipality MP Mathias Mpuuga and party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, among others, while Mr Mayiga was flanked by the kingdom minister for information and communication, Mr Noah Kiyimba.
By press time, Daily Monitor could not readily establish details of what transpired during the meeting.
However, after the closed-door meeting, which lasted about an hour at the kingdom headquarters in Bulange, Mengo, Bobi Wine said he had been to all regions in the country and received endorsement to carry the issues of Ugandans.
“It is on that note that I come for your blessing and endorsement to take on this leadership. Being from Buganda Kingdom, I pledge that once I get the blessing, I won’t let you down but I will make sure that I front the issues of Buganda,” Mr Kyagulanyi said.

Buganda’s position
Mr Mayiga said the kingdom does not endorse candidates or political parties but advises subjects to look out for the aspirants who stand for Buganda’s issues.
“Young people that aspire for leadership positions should tell us the solutions they bring. How do you plan to handle the Buganda question? How are you going to deal with Buganda’s five aspirational objectives? I think such are the key questions that all aspiring youthful leaders must provide answers to,” he said.
Buganda stands for pillars of federalism, restoring land, and demarcating its boundaries, development, and unity.
