Music fraternity mourns mother to Maurice Kirya, Vampino

Music fans and artistes yesterday joined their colleagues Maurice Kirya, Elvis Kirya aka Vampino and Alex Kirya aka Sabasaba to mourn their mother Sophie Kirya.

Mrs Kirya succumbed to a long cancer illness at the Mulago referral hospital cancer institute on Sunday August 9.
The singers, who had been by their mother's side till she breathed her last in Mulago, defined their late mother as a very loving and supportive mother that encouraged and stood by them in all their endeavors.

"She was our rock, our queen, our celebrity, the foundation of all good things, our everything," said Alex Kirya aka Sabasaba.
Dancehall singer Vampino thanked the doctors at Mulago hospital for doing their best and said he was at peace with the lord's decision; "Mom has gone. Thank you those who prayed for her, she is in a better place.”

Mrs Kirya is survived by five children including four boys and one girl and a total of ten grandchildren.
Several musicians, many who had met the deceased through her singing children and music lovers, took to different social media platforms with condolence messages to the bereaved.

Benon Mugumbya, a renowned music producer at Swangz Avenue records and a former partner with Elvis Kirya aka Vamposs, talked about the late as a great mother and friend that welcomed everyone with a warm open heart; “We’ve lost a Mother, a Friend and a Sister. RIP Madam Sophie. My Brothers Vamposs, Saba Saba Alex Kirya, Maurice Kirya, Lennie, Richard, Sister Maureen and Mr. Tee, may the Lord keep you strong." Benon said.

“When I met this lovely woman, she reminded me of my late mother. Kirya talked about his mom every chance he got and everything he said, I saw it for myself. It’s so sad that she has passed on so early but surely she has done her job among us pretty well and she deserves and Peaceful rest,” wrote Radio City presenter Brian Sabiiti aka McKenzie.

“RIP Mama Kirya. I hope and pray that God comforts your amazing Children in this hard time. Rest With The Angels above,” singer Irene Ntale posted.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to my brothers Vampino Elvis and Maurice Kirya for the loss of your dear mother. I pray that the good Lord strengthens you in this tough time.” wrote NTV presenter Robin Kisti.

"Deeply saddened by the news of the passing of this wonderful woman. Mother to my friends Vampino, Maurice Kirya and Sabasaba. Hey guys let's keep our brothers and the entire family in prayer during this very difficult time. Rest in peace mama.

" To my brothers Vampino, Maurice, Saba Saba and the entire Kirya family, may God strengthen you during this trying time, I've been one of the people nourished by Aunt Sophie's food at Fenon, she will dearly be missed, may her soul RIP. May Gods hand touch all those in pain and see them through it in Jesus name," wrote comedian Patrick Salvado Idringi.

There was s vigil at the deceased's residence in Luwafu, Makindye division last night. There will be a requiem mass at St. James church along Salama road at 9am this morning. The deceased will then be transported to Rwenkoore, Bwijanga along Masindi- Hoima road where she will be laid to rest at 4pm on Wednesday August 12th.
