JINJA- The new bridge in Jinja District has been named The Source of the Nile Bridge.
The Spokesperson at the Ministry of Works, Ms Susan Kataike, told Daily Monitor that President Museveni on Monday communicated to the Permanent Secretary of the line Ministry, Mr Bageya Waiswa indicating thus.

“The President has communicated to the Permanent Secretary and in all our correspondences going forward, we are calling it The Source of the Nile Bridge,” Ms Kataike said in a telephone interview.
Since its construction started in April 2014, the bridge has simply been referred to as ‘The New Nile Bridge’ and cabinet was racing against time to find a befitting name by Monday (today).

During an inspection of the bridge last Friday, Works and Transport Minister, Ms Monica Ntege Azuba, promised to reveal the name of the bridge ‘later’.
“Cabinet sat and asked leaders from Busoga to come up with an appropriate name; and indeed, very many names were proposed,” she said.

Adding: “We gradually kept reducing on the names, while phasing out others until we remained with two - Source of the Nile Bridge and Kiira Bridge,” she said emphasizing that an appropriate name will have to be found by Monday (today).
The Source of the Nile Bridge is set to be commissioned on October 17 by President Museveni as chief guest, accompanied by a high-level delegation from Japan led by the Minister for International Development.
