The National Unity Platform (NUP) party flag bearer for the Mbale City Woman MP seat, Ms Robinah Nadunga Masibo, has accused police and the army of raiding her home and confiscating her campaign materials.

Ms Nadunga told Saturday Monitor during an interview at her home in Muti Cell, Industrial City Division on Thursday, that police and the army raided her home on Wednesday and confiscated her campaign materials including red berets, T-shirts and posters.

“They searched everywhere even in my bedroom, it was terrible,” Ms Nadunga, said.
She said the security personnel had earlier raided her home on Monday and Tuesday without notice.
“Ever since I was nominated, they keep surveilling my home and I wonder which crime I committed. I live in fear and my life is in danger,” she said.
Ms Nadunga, who defected from Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) to NUP last year, is contesting for the seat of District Woman MP.

Other contestants for the seat include the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer,  Lydia Wanyoto and incumbent MP Connie Galiwango, who is contesting as an Independent, Ms Shadia Luwungule  (Independent), Ms Rachel Kakungulu (Independent) and Ms Maimuna Nambuya, the flag bearer for Forum For Democratice Change  (FDC) party.
Ms Nadunga said the actions of the security agencies have traumatised her family.

“On Thursday morning, I had organised breakfast for my agents. But the police and soldiers again raided my home. My children and relatives now no longer want to sleep in the house. They are psychologically traumatised,” she said.
She added: “The NRM candidates are holding meetings freely and their posters are all over the city but my agents are being intimidated and arrested for no crime. Why are the police and army not being neutral, their mandate is to protect us but not intimidate us.”
Mr Rogers Taitika, the Elgon police spokesperson, said they only visited her home to stop a gathering but they did not take anything.

“We did not pick up anything from there. We just responded to a call alerting us that more than 400 people had gathered at her home contrary to Covid-19 directives,” she said.
Mr Taitika, however, urged the NUP supporters to desist from possessing any military-associated items.
