Nyangasi handed life imprisonment

Grief Wednesday morning filled the High Court in Kampala after Justice Jane Kiggundu sentenced the ex-chairman of Uganda Medical Workers Union, Mr Apollo Dalton Nyangasi to life imprisonment for killing his wife, Christine Nyangasi Dambio.
Mr Nyangasi was convicted on Friday last week but his sentencing was deferred to Wednesday.
Moments after the sentencing, relatives of the late Dambio who were carrying the deceased’s portrait sobbed while hugging.
Justice Kiggundu said Nyangasi’s action of ending the life of his wife is a total disgrace.
“He has no respect for society. Therefore, I grant him a life sentence as a lesson to those who engage in domestic violence,” Justice Kiggundu said.
Prosecution that was led by State Attorney, Ms Florence Kataike, maintained that on July 24, 2010, at Kireka B Zone, Wakiso District, Mr Nyangasi killed his wife.
