Archbishop of the Orthodox Church in Uganda, Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga, has cautioned Christians against living a wasteful life, saying it is the reason many people lack basic needs.

“We have a growing trend in Uganda where people live a life of wastefulness because they have all the money they need but cannot afford to share out with the less privileged in society,” Archbishop Lwanga said.
“Many people think that the wasteful lives they enjoy is the end of life. This trend must change,” he added.

The Archbishop was speaking in Luweero District during the memorial service for the first Archbishop of the Orthodox Church in Uganda Theodoros Nankyama held at Tweyanze village in Katikamu Sub-county last Sunday. He said Uganda is among the many countries where many people live luxuriously while their neighbours live in abject poverty.

The Archbishop noted that the Orthodox Church encourages spiritual growth and the need to love and treat all human beings as equal before God.
“This is the message which all people must embrace as we pray for our country,” Archbishop Lwanga said.
