Two suspected homosexuals arrested in salon

- Since the passing of the Anti-Homosexuality Act in May 2023, police have heightened efforts to apprehend suspects on allegations of engaging in unnatural practices or homosexuality acts.
Kampala North Metropolitan Police have in custody two male adults who were allegedly caught red-handed sodomising each other in a salon at Kisingiri Cell-Namirembe, Bakuli Parish in Rubaga Division, Kampala.
The suspects, both 23-year-olds, were arrested by police last Friday while engaging in unnatural offenses in a salon.
“On October 20, at around 3pm, a student from one of the schools decided to take shelter from the heavy rainfall on the veranda of the salon. It was at this point that the student heard funny screaming sounds inside the salon,” Police spokesperson, Mr Fred Enanga, said during a press briefing on Monday.
“The student picked his phone and recorded the two suspects in the acts of sodomy. He later alerted security guards at Total [fuel station] Mengo who called police at Bakuliand the two suspects were arrested,” he added.
Mr Enanga further noted that the two suspects are still in police custody on charges of practicing unnatural offenses.
“You are very much aware that the offenses against the natural order like sodomy and others are punishable crimes in the country, so these two are being taken for practicing unnatural offense,” he said.
Since the passing of the Anti-Homosexuality Act in May 2023, police have heightened efforts to apprehend suspects on allegations of engaging in unnatural practices or homosexuality acts.
This publication has established that over 12 suspects have so far been arrested and arraigned before court between the months June and October, 2023 on charges of engaging or promoting homosexuality behaviours.
Mr Enanga urged the public to always report any suspicious behaviors in their communities to police and local authorities to ensure that the perpetrators of the unnatural practices are brought to book and apprehended.
According to the Anti-Homosexuality Act that was enacted by the Ugandan government in May this year, aggravated homosexuality attracts punishments, which may also include death penalty depending on the circumstances under which the crime is committed.
