Everything rises and  falls with leadership

Joseph Mukiibi

What you need to know:

  • The founders and first- generation leaders (executives/Board memmbers) of an organisation may not need a formal vision statement, because what they are called to do is probably written on their hearts.

Covid-19 has registered great recession, with credit drying up and sales slumped for many companies on the globe!
The new normal caused by Covid-19 has disoriented many organisations/companies on the globe.

This invokes a fundamental economic change and diversification in organisational leadership.
Leadership influences the behaviour of the organisation, effective planning, introduces required changes, trains and develops employees, builds morale, aids authority, basis for cooperation, maintaining integrity, crisis management, effective utilisation of resources et cetera.

Due to Covid-19, many organisations have grown strategically in vision and others have collapsed directly or implicitly!
The founders and first- generation leaders (executives/Board memmbers) of an organisation may not need a formal vision statement, because what they are called to do is probably written on their hearts.

However, when successive generations of leaders and workers come along, they need more specific information, especially during this time of the new normal.

The vision statement expresses clearly and concisely the compelling passion and purpose of the organisation.
The vision statement brings and keeps an organisation together and helps the company to keep going when the work is especially difficult!

Effective leaders make sure workers are doing the right things, while effective managers make sure they are doing things right.
The challenge to this emerges when the proprietor becomes a ‘‘sanctified obstructionist’’ and fails to recognise when it is time for new leadership.

There are four things positive leaders must articulate in mind; seeing possibilities when others do not, focusing on solutions instead of complaints, encouraging people when they are feeling defeated and finally, demonstrating commitment when others want to quit.
In all this, the supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity; without it, no real success is possible.

Living bodies adapt and make changes in order to survive and develop, and so do organisations, if the leadership is wise.
Every corporate problem you face is an opportunity to understand what needs to be done to the make things go better.

This is order in the midst of change and change in the midst of order. Order without change can become a paralysis, but change without order is chaos.
There is no leader who can know everything, do everything and be everywhere. This merges company boards of directors with their expertise!

These must be balanced in order to have access to the minds and hearts of people with a wide variety of experiences and vocations. The role of the board changes as the company grows and the management team becomes more diverse.
The best leadership style and approach in the new normal is incomprehensible and complex! Why?

The pandemic is unprecedented for those alive and active today. It has created anxiety and the need for adapting to the emerging situation.

Leadership, thus needs to focus on being composed and radiating it with confidence to steady the nerves with effective communication, dynamism and transformation!
