Toyota RAV4 is a compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with credentials for both on and medium off road ability. RAV4 was Toyota’s first crossover SUV designed to provide a compact vehicle with full time four wheel drive.
Since its debut in 1994, the RAV4 has been contnually improved to offer better dynamic safety, comfort, higher visibility, increased passenger and cargo room, better fuel economy and engine power, multi terrain access as well as excellent reputation for reliability.

Performance
The RAV4 III 2.4 litre petrol engine responds well to acceleration while providing good fuel economy. The big 2.4 litre petrol engine delivers a bigger torque than its 2.0 litre contemporaries using lower engine revolutions and is balanced well with the SUV load. The Variable Valve Timing intelligent (VVTi ) with Double Overhead camshaft (DOHC) engine drive train technology in RAV4 III displays an impressive mix between economy and performance. The Continuously Variable Transmission - CVT shifts smoothly while adapting to one’s driving style and engine load to provide optimum power delivery with the least fuel consumption.

Handling
The RAV4 III is enjoyable and comfortable to drive because its front axle has independent McPherson gas struts with coil springs and stabiliser bars. The RAV4 rear suspension has four wheel independent suspension with trailing links, double wishbone, stabilizer bar and coil springs. This ensures a good road grip and responsive steering. The RAV4 does not sway or swerve easily when driven fast around sharp bends. The electronic stability and traction control programmes enhance road holding and safe maneuvering. Electronic brake force distribution with brake assist prevent skidding and facilitate safe sudden stopping should the need arise.

Reliability and resale value
The RAV4 III has a good reliability track record. However, engine fluid and filter servicing must be done regularly with reputable lubricants of the Toyota recommended grade and viscosity. When buying a used RAV4 iii you need to carefully inspect the engine, transmission, brakes, suspension and body (in case of major accident history). Their DOHC drive trains and electronic fuel injection systems are sensitive and require high grade engine oil and clean unleaded fuel. Maintenance should be carried out with genuine parts from independent and appointed parts dealers with genuine Toyota parts. Generally, body and suspension parts for this RAV4 model are costly.

Design, comfort and safety of the RAV4

The RAV4 generation III has a more chiselled and sharp exterior design which gives it a feminine slender but elegant appeal with promise to perform well both on and off road.

Safety and comfort features
Safety and comfort features are modern in both the RAV4 III.
Dual front airbags (with human knee airbag) and side curtain airbags, ISOFIX child seat harnessing points on rear seat, Anti lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake force distribution (EBD) with emergency brake assist, electronic stability programme with traction control, side and front impact intrusion beams, and three point seat belts all round have earned these rivaling cars an average of four stars in global safety test rating.

Interior
The interior of RAV4 III is designed and built with the urban but adventurous young family in mind. Modern and practical seat layouts, ample storage facilities and access to convenient features and accessory controls.
There is a provision for a seven seat layout although the two seats at the back are for very young passengers.
RAV4’s interior finish is also bedecked with the modern chrome look and with a practical sense of style and easy to access knobs and switches.
The keyless go engine start button reminds you that this is the 21st Century where you can keep the key in your pocket but still be able to access, start and drive your car away.
